Supporting Türkiye’s high-speed railway development

12/10/2026

A EUR 175 million ICIEC‑covered financing supports the Bandırma–Bursa–Yenişehir–Osmaneli High‑Speed Railway project in Türkiye, which will contribute to improve connectivity, transport efficiency and low-carbon mobility. Societe Generale acted as Mandated Lead Arranger and Lender to Türkiye’s Ministry of Treasury and Finance in financing this infrastructure project.

The Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure has made rail transport one of its strategic priorities. In 2025, 50.1% of its budget was allocated to the sector(1), which has received USD 65.9 billion of investment between 2003 and 2025(2).
Türkiye’s rail network currently extends over nearly 14,000 km, including almost 12,000 km of conventional lines and 2,000 km of high‑speed lines. The Turkish State Railways (TCDD) also announced more than 4,000 km of new railway lines in construction across the country(2).
Beyond improving network coverage and regional integration, these investments aim to support the country’s economy logistics, exportation capacities, and energy transition. Repair works have also been carried out in areas affected by earthquakes, with modernized infrastructure and new logistics centers.

A new asset for expanding high‑speed rail services in Türkiye

Connecting Bandırma–Bursa–Yenişehir–Osmaneli, the new BBYO high‑speed rail line is designed for speeds of up to 250 km/h. This route will link key industrial and population centers to the national rail network. Spanning 201 km, this high-speed railway will enhance connections between Istanbul, Bursa, and Ankara, cutting travel time between Istanbul and Bursa to just 1 hour and 15 minutes. With the capacity to handle 30 million passengers and 59 million tonnes of freight annually, the project represents a major step in Türkiye's transport modernization(3). It includes significant infrastructure components such as stations, tunnels, viaducts, and bridges, and will be executed by Kalyon İnşaat, a leading Turkish Engineering, Procurement, and Construction contractor.
