A new solar energy center will supply electricity to the world’s largest concentration of data centers, with the financing contribution of Societe Generale.

The solar energy center will provide reliable energy to end customers near Northern Virginia’s “Data Center Alley” in the Dulles Technology Corridor.  This region represents the world’s largest concentration of data centers primarily owned by the top technology companies in the world.

Spotsylvania Solar Energy Center, which is located in Spotsylvania County, Virginia has a total capacity of about 620 megawatts. Its proximity to such a concentration of data centers puts the project in an optimal position to satisfy energy demand needs of its customers, including Microsoft, Etsy, Akamai, Apple and University of Richmond. Once in operation, the Spotsylvania Solar Energy Center will be the largest solar farm East of the Rockies.

Societe Generale is a key contributor of the financing of Power’s Spotsylvania Solar Energy Center which consists of $704 million of senior-secured credit facilities. It is theMandated Lead Arranger, Joint Bookrunner and Hedge Provider.

Societe Generale is a pioneer in financing renewable energies, and since 2015 has committed to aligning its activities to limiting global warming.

Societe Generale’s voluntary and responsible strategy to answer the climate emergency is based on supporting clients in their energy transition and progressively reducing activities related to the most carbon intensive activities.
