Siemens Gamesa finances itself in green to combat climate change

16/12/2019

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE), leading supplier of wind power solutions, has embedded its commitment to sustainability and combating climate change, in every step it takes, including its funding strategy.

The company has recently entrusted Société Générale to act as fronting and issuing bank of a 230 million green guarantee facility to be utilized in the frame of eligible green projects that benefit the environment and are socially responsible.
Siemens Gamesa accumulates approximately 1,5 billion euro in green guarantees this year and will use this last line for its worldwide business of manufacturing onshore and offshore wind turbine generators. A further step in its commitment to support several of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and contribute dynamically to the shift towards a low-carbon economy.

We are fully committed to combating climate change by generating clean, sustainable energy for the planet. Incorporating environmental, social and governance criteria into finance is another step in our commitment to creating a better future for people and the planet, by optimizing financial capital in order to accelerate the transformation towards a more competitive and sustainable business model,

David Mesonero,
CFO of Siemens Gamesa

Siemens Gamesa has installed over 99 GW of wind capacity worldwide, which produce enough clean energy to power nearly 85 million European households. In this way, the company contributes to eliminating 260 million tons of CO₂ emissions each year, the equivalent of planting over 4 billion trees or removing the emissions of 170 million diesel cars.

Societe Generale is fully committed with a responsible energy transition and we are proud to support Siemens Gamesa in the achievement of sustainable development goals through clean energy,

Laetitia Rodríguez, Banker at Societe Generale and Miguel Ángel Rodriguez Pinos, Head of Trade Finance in Spain.
