What to expect for equity markets in 2019?

This time last year, in their Equity Outlook 2018, Societe Generale Equity Strategists presented a cautious view for equity markets in 2018. Since then, the MSCI World has lost 9% from its January high, and, while they have identified a handful of factors that could provide some relief to equities in 1H19, longer term, they remained extremely cautious and recommended that equity investors protect portfolios from more restrictive monetary policy, political uncertainties and trade tensions.

In their latest publication, the team shares their convictions on markets and some key recommendations to navigate these difficult equity markets. In coordination with equity analysts, strategists highlight opportunities and risks on each European sectors, looking at valuations, profitability, growth prospects, balance sheets and fundamentals. To assess the resilience of each sector, the team has done an historical analysis of sector earnings during previous economic slowdown. The report also includes an update of the SG Premium List (list of 17 favourite stocks of SG Research), as well as thematic baskets designed in coordination with equity analysts.
