Paris to London Bike Ride 2013

From 29 May to 1st June 2013, more than 200 Societe Generale employees have biked from Paris to London in 3 days for the benefit of 2 of our charity partners: CARE and EMMAUS Défi. The funds raised will be handed over to for financing 2 charity projects to foster education and professional insertion.

The Paris to London Bike Ride is team spirit for the benefit of a human, athletic and charitable adventure !

CARE 

In Brazil, CARE has developed in 2006 the "Educating Community" project that integrates school and community to improve academic performance indicators and local life quality.  The project aims to promote active, critical and transformative participation of 5,000 children5 and young people from 7 to 18 years old (primary and secondary school), living in the favelas of Rio and Sao Paulo.  CARE  will bring literacy to these children through reading circles, providing  books and cushions, while raising awareness, motivating and training 40 volunteer facilitators from public secondary schools, from 15 to 18 years old.  With the aim of giving the children a chance at academic success, they will be trained as mediators and young community leaders on reading.


EMMAUS DÉFI 

In September 2012, Emmaus Défi launched Paris’ biggest charity shop, which was partly financed by the Paris to London Bike Ride 2012. Since its opening, this second hand ‘temple’ has been immensely successful and 40 additional jobs have been created. The 2013 ‘Paris Collector’ project is an extension of the Bric à Brac project, and will help Emmaus Défi intensify its fight against poverty and social exclusion. In fact, funds raised by the Paris to London Bike Ride 2013 will finance 2 new, easily accessible drop-off points in Paris, as well as 2 lorries and a Project Manager. By establishing new collection methods in Paris, Emmaus Défi aims to eventually offer employment to 200 people experiencing financial difficulties as part of a reintegration programme.
