Appointments within the Coverage and Investment Banking Division of Societe Generale Corporate & Investment Banking

Societe Generale Corporate & Investment (SG CIB) announces the following appointments within the Coverage and Investment Banking division.

Thierry d’Argent, previously Global Head of Corporate Finance, and Sylvie Rémond, previously Deputy Group Chief Risk Officer, are both appointed Co-Heads of Coverage and Investment banking, effective March 1st 2015.

They will succeed to Thierry Aulagnon who has decided to retire in the coming weeks.

Thierry d’Argent and Sylvie Rémond will report to Didier Valet, Head of Global Banking & Investor Solutions.

Sylvain Mégarbané is appointed Global Head of Corporate Finance, effective March 1st 2015. Previously, he was Head of Corporate Finance for Power & Utilities Sector. He will report to Thierry d’Argent and Sylvie Rémond.

Thierry d’Argent and Sylvie Rémond remain members of the Management Committee of Societe Generale Group.

 Biographies

Thierry Aulagnon was Head of the Coverage and Investment Banking Division since January 2007. He joined Societe Generale Corporate & Investment Banking in 2000 as Senior Banker with responsibility for global relations with a number of large companies, governments and supranationals. He was then appointed Head of Investment Banking in 2003. Thierry Aulagnon has been a member of the Societe Generale Corporate & Investment Banking executive committee and of Societe Generale Group Management Committee since 2004. Between 1975 and 1996, Thierry held several positions in the French Ministry of Treasury including Alternate Executive Director for France at the International Monetary Fund, Advisor to the Cabinet of the Minister of Economy, Finances & Budget, Deputy Director of the Treasury for banking affairs and public debt management, Head of the State Holdings Department and Chief Adviser to the Minister of Economy & Finance. In 1996 he became a managing director of the GAN.  Thierry Aulagnon holds a B.A. in Law, is a graduate of the Institut d'Etudes Politiques of Paris and of the National School for Administration (ENA).

Thierry d’Argent is appointed Co-Head of the Coverage and Investment Banking Division as of March 1st 2015.  He was formerly Global Head of Corporate Finance since April 2012. He joined Societe Generale Corporate & Investment Banking in 2009, as Managing Director and member of the M&A Executive Committee, and was Global Head of Merger and Acquisitions since 2010. Previously, he was Managing Director at J.P. Morgan, member of the J.P. Morgan’s European Advisory leadership core team and of the firm’s management committee in France. He started his career as a management consultant with Oliver Wyman in London and was deputy Cabinet Director in the Brussels Federal Government between 1991 and 1992. Then he worked at Barings, latterly as Director, in Paris. He joined J.P. Morgan in 1998. Between 2001 and 2008, Thierry headed J.P. Morgan’s French Mergers & Acquisition franchise. Thierry d’Argent graduated summa cum laude from the Solvay Business School and the University of Brussels.

Sylvie Rémond is appointed Co-Head of the Coverage and Investment Banking Division as of March 1st 2015.  Previously she was Deputy Group Chief Risk Officer since January 2010. She joined Societe Generale in 1985 and held different positions in the Individual Client Division and the Large Corporate Division. She was appointed to the Structured Finance Department in 1992, first in the Acquisition Financing team  and then in the Syndications group where she became co-head of the Corporate and Acquisition Finance syndication team in 2000. She joined the Risk Division in 2004 as co-head of credit risk for the Corporate and Investment Banking activity, before becoming Head in September 2008.  Sylvie Rémond is a graduate of ESC Rouen.

Sylvain Mégarbané is appointed Global Head of Corporate Finance as of March 1st 2015. Previously he was Head of Corporate Finance for Power & Utilities sector since 2010. Before joining Societe Generale Corporate & Investment Banking, he was an Executive Director in the European Power & Utilities team of JP Morgan that he joined in 1998. Sylvain Mégarbané graduated from Ecole Polytechnique and ENSAE (Ecole Nationale de la Statistique et de l’Administration Economique) and holds a Diploma from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques in Paris.
