Healthcare: a changing market
Like many sectors, Healthcare is currently experiencing unprecedented levels of innovation. Medical developments and digitalisation are impacting all healthcare verticals, and particularly Big Pharma, Medtech and Biotech.
Healthcare currently accounts for around 10% of global GDP and spending in the sector is projected to reach $8.7tn by 2020. This growth is underpinned by long-term global trends, most notably an ageing world population driving demand for healthcare services.
Beyond the development of new medicines and cures, the adoption and assimilation of technology for patient interfaces, customer service and logistics is driving change.
At Societe Generale our team of experts works on behalf of our clients to anticipate these trends and seek out investment opportunities as they emerge. Taking a long-term view, our analysts are constantly scouring the market for openings to grow our clients’ businesses.

60 seconds with Jesus Carrasco Abad
Healthcare is a non-cyclical industry with stable and resilient growth prospects. It is underpinned by attractive fundamentals such as an ageing world demographic, growing access in emerging markets and an increasing prevalence of chronic diseases.
Unmet medical needs continue to attract significant investments to drive technological and scientific progress. Consolidation is ongoing in several subsectors, like pharma and healthcare services, and this is driving economies of scale and efficiencies.
Societe Generale’s Healthcare team actively supports and collaborates with our coverage and product bankers across all regions globally. Our focus is on core services like mergers and acquisitions, and ECM/EQL as well as leveraging strategic dialogue for cross-selling of other investment banking products like acquisition financing solutions.
We contribute to – and often lead – the global conversation around healthcare. In doing so we aim to deepen and enhance sector dialogue and C-Suite relationships with our clients in the sector.
